Jet Ski Rules - Personal
Watercraft
|
|
The
DMV issues motorboat and Jet Ski licenses for use on
fresh, non-tidal waters or lakes, creeks or rivers not
affected by tidal conditions.
You must be at least 16 years old. If you are under the
age of 17, you need to present a letter with parental or
guardian consent.

Boat Registration -

If
you need to register a boat more than 12 feet in length

Visit
your local MVC Agency

Bring
the title and acceptable proof of age and
identification

Complete
the application for boat registration (form BA-51)

Pay
the required registration
fee

Boats
and marine equipment that do not have to be registered

Those
not based in New Jersey or operating for less than 180
consecutive days

vessels, U.S. public vessels, Ship's lifeboats

Non-motorized
vessels used exclusively on small lakes and ponds on
private property, Racing vessels with New Jersey State

inflatable devices, surfboards, racing shells,
dinghies, canoes and kayaks and Non-motorized vessels
less than 12 feet in length

It
is illegal for the owner or person in control of a
motorboat to allow someone who does not meet the age or
boating education requirements to operate the vessel.
